Absolutely. Prefer to buy a prebuilt than building it yourself? I've asked on the game forum but with no solution. Technically, owners of this particular EVGA card can skirt round Nvidia’s strange rule by using EVGA’s Precision software to help optimise the card so it’s in the absolute peakest of peak condition, but for the sake of science, I ran my tests as you’ll find this card out of the box. Zotac’s jumbo Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 makes a return appearance after its impressive stint in my Shadow of the Tomb Raider graphics performance test, and much like the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 Ti, made absolute mincemeat of Forza Horizon 4 across all three resolutions. Posted on October 2, ... Low Specs Experience is designed to go above and beyond anything possible in-game graphics options, with certain optimization methods setting your game to lower graphics settings than allowed by the developer in-game graphics options. It comes with good keyboard/mouse as well as controller support, an unlocked framerate, and loads of graphics options to tweak. Once the best card in AMD’s GPU stable, the Radeon RX Vega 64 now pays homage to the Radeon 7 (and very soon, the new pair of Big Navi cards, too). This particular card is another one from PowerColor – the 8GB Red Dragon edition, albeit sans the red dragon decal found on their Red Dragon RX 570. Yep, it’s Ultra time again, thanks to a lovely average of 66fps. When decreasing the it to as low as I did, it becomes an ugly experience. Forza Horizon 4 does have a … (~$2,000/£2,000) - Everything a gamer could want. Alas, despite its valiant efforts at both 1920×1080 and 2560×1440, 4K is just too much for this little card, even on Low. My biggest gripe is that every other gaming distribution service allows me to easily copy files between PCs, then import the game into the appropriate service. I am trying to run the demo of Forza Horizon 4, however on start up I'm faced with the following screen: I have checked that I am running the most current drivers, I am running a Radeon R7 but I'm not sure which series. FH4 GraphicsCache Reset ... Quickly cleaning the game's GraphicsCache (to avoid potential glitches * after altering the graphics settings), should work for all Nvidia GPU. Indeed, the frame rate never dipped below 62fps on this preset, so those with regular 60Hz monitors will get a perfect 60fps straight off the bat. I promise you won’t regret it. Triple yep. Find more information here. As you can see below, it shouldn’t be too difficult to get Forza Horizon 4 up and running, no matter how aged your graphics card might be. Cyberpunk 2077 sleuths are unravelling the game's biggest mystery: who is Mr. Blue Eyes? This puts it in much better stead to deal with Forza’s beefier quality settings, even if the blower fan on this particular reference model card sounded like it was about to take off throughout the length of my testing. MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Duke 11G OC That said, the only way to switch between different quality presets on the Basic menu is to make sure the Dynamic Optimisation setting is turned on. Visit our corporate site. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get hold of the latter in time for this particular graphics test to see if that was true of Forza Horizon 4 or not, but I’ll update this article with more results as soon as I can to see how they compare. Still, when it hits its peak of 54fps, it really feels like you’re flying. And even better, you can do it without compromise, too. Here, the GTX 1050Ti only experienced the very occasional 58fps pothole, and instead spent most of its time cruising around the 68fps zone. Moving up to 1080p ultra, there's less than a 10 percent difference between the i5-8400 and the i3-8300, with only the Ryzen 3 2200G and i3-7100 falling off the pace. No part of this site or its content may be reproduced without the permission of the copyright holder. MSI GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4G The frame rate yoyoed quite a bit during the benchmark, ranging from a low of 78fps to a high of 112fps, but unless you own a high refresh rate monitor and are particularly susceptible to frame rate changes at that kind of speed, you’ll probably be fine letting things fly at whatever maximum speed your monitor’s capable of. Tagged with feature, frames frames frames, graphics cards, Hardware, how much graphics does it have, Playground Games, Forza Horizon 4. Global Preset (110 percent): Going from maximum to minimum quality obviously has the greatest effect on performance. Need a new PC for Forza Horizon 4? How would you explain Nic Cage's bootleg Five Nights At Freddy's movie to a medieval peasant? Did someone say an average of 75fps on Ultra? Despite all his rage, he is still just Nicolas Cage, Hades Titan Blood guide: how to find and use Titan Blood to increase your power, How to use Titan Blood to increase your power. The time of day and weather are dynamic in the main game world, so things may look quite different not because of a settings change but because the lighting or weather has shifted. Here, the frame rate had a pretty tight range, going no lower than 40fps and no higher than 49fps, and probably strikes the best balance between speed and looking all nice and shiny. The average frame rate inched up to 47fps, but I still saw an overall range of 35-56fps during the course of the benchmark. PC Gamer is part of Future US Inc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. The GTX 1050Ti was never built to be a 4K graphics card, of course, so it’s unlikely you’ll want to play at this resolution given its superior results elsewhere, but hey, at least you can’t say I’m not thorough. Thank you for signing up to PC Gamer. Forza, formerly a console exclusive series for Xbox systems, is one of several beneficiaries of Microsoft's Play Anywhere initiative. Searching for this annoying bug for days but noone fixed it. The game looks beautiful, the driving is fun (though not simulation level if that's what you're after), and framerates even on modest rigs are acceptably high. Without a doubt, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is the best graphics card you can buy today for 1080p gaming without breaking the bank. Once again, the Radeon 7 is more than capable of handling Forza on Ultra quality here, and if an average of 78fps isn’t good enough for you, then there’s simply no pleasing you. youtu.be/pMFs35... 66 comments. The highest frame rate I saw was 95fps on this preset, while the lowest was 71fps, so you’ve still got plenty of room for some Extreme options if you want to make the game look even prettier than it already is. Even with the aforementioned memory constraints, the GTX 970 produced an average frame rate of 54fps on Ultra at this resolution, with highs of 66fps and lows of 44fps. AMD's 8-core and 6-core Ryzen processors trail the i5-8400 by around 15 percent, followed by the Ryzen 5 2400G and i3-8300, and the 2200G and i3-7100 bring up the rear. I'm using an Acer Predator X27 gaming monitor for testing, which includes support for 4k at 144Hz, G-Sync, and HDR output. I'll get to those in a moment, but let's run through the various graphics settings first. Sticking with the ultra preset and dropping to 1080p, everything from the R9 390 and up now averages a steady 60fps or more, and most of the GPUs have minimums above 60fps as well—meaning, on the majority of displays, you can run at your monitor's refresh rate with v-sync enabled and not worry about dropping any frames. Playground Games actually list the 3GB version of the GTX 1060 in their recommended specs list, but you’ll have to make do with results for the 6GB version instead here, as I haven’t been able to get hold of a 3GB one to see how they compare. If anything, you may well see slightly better results than this, as PowerColor’s Red Dragon version is one of the slower 8GB cards available. It's not as good as other forms of AA but can help remove the most visible jaggies. 30fps can be handy if your graphics card is struggling to get to 60fps (although, judging by my results, I doubt this will be a problem for most modern GPUs), but generally I found that even older cards were pretty stable when playing on one of the presets (the difference between their minimum and maximum frame rates often no higher than 10fps), so you’ll probably be fine sticking with the 60fps lock for the most part. This is one of the more demanding settings to max out, and dropping to medium is recommended for lower tier GPUs. When the game runs so much better on Low you’d be silly to cripple yourself here for a couple of slightly fancier effects. MSI RX 570 Gaming X 4G Surprisingly, yes! Absolutely, and you can shift that gear stick all the way up to Ultra, too, for a super smooth average of 63fps. Several of the settings can be pushed beyond the ultra preset to an 'extreme' level, for those with more potent PCs. FXAA (3 percent): Fast approximate anti-aliasing is a post-processing filter that attempts to eliminate jaggies. Comments are now closed. Results HD – 1280x720 It’s not only cheaper than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, but it’s faster, too, making it a great companion for those after some smooth Forza Horizon 4 action. Oh, go on, then, how does an average of 107fps on Ultra sound? For our graphics analysis we compare similar screenshots taken on the four standard presets of ultra, high, mid, and low. I have some thoughts on the Windows Store below, which is about the only complaint I have with Forza Horizon 4. With an average frame rate of 67fps, this card delivers 4K perfection right off the bat. That might not sound like much, but for this kind of card? It’s just about doable if you’re really desperate, but with an average frame rate of just 27fps and juddery lows of 22fps, it’s just not worth it. But wait, what about Intel's integrated graphics solutions? A: Now optimized for the Xbox Series X/S, experience higher fidelity graphics and faster performance in Forza Horizon 4, similar to high-end gaming PC Ultra settings. Thought so. Go on, turn everything up to Extreme, why don’t ya? Well, now it’s time for the R9 270 to get its own back as, surprisingly, it made a pretty decent fist of running Forza Horizon 4, proving this ancient GPU isn’t quite ready for the scrap heap just yet. OS: Windows 10 Indeed, the frame rate never dipped below 60fps during the game’s internal benchmark, and even reached as high as 70fps on several occasions. Toss in timed events and future potential and this could be the racing game that keeps me coming back for the next couple of years—until Forza Horizon 5, most likely. MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G Processor: Intel Core i7-3820 or higher Please enable Javascript to view comments. Here's the short summary of the features and settings we like to see in PC games, and how Forza Horizon 4 stacks up. The slowest frame rate I saw was 54fps, too, so it’s unlikely you’ll notice any dips in speed if and when they do actually occur. Asus’ beefed up take on Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1070 is one of the faster versions of this card out there, but even if your own GTX 1070 doesn’t have a base clock speed of 1632MHz or a boost clock of 1835MHz, chances are you’ll still get impeccable performance out of whatever version you happen to own, as the GTX 1070 cruised through Forza Horizon 4 with silky smooth frame rates across the board. 1440p ultra allows even more GPUs to easily hit 60fps or more, though 144fps still requires dropping a few settings and a beefy graphics card. The GTX 1070Ti makes it possible. What's important to note is that all the CPUs still manage 60fps or more for minimum fps, so in general CPU bottlenecks shouldn't be much of a problem. The game includes a built-in benchmark that provides a good idea of real-world performance based on my testing. Again, you’ll have no trouble on Ultra quality here, as the benchmark returned another triple-figure average of 113fps at this resolution, so go forth and have a good time. The GeForce RTX cards still hold the top two spots, but the Vega 64 now passes the 1080 Ti and the Vega 56 isn't far behind. Its peaks of 92fps were slightly more fleeting, but I doubt many people will be complaining here. There may be a new pair of Big Navi cards on the way in the form of the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, but the Radeon 7 remains the best graphics card in AMD’s current roster. At 1080p medium, the Core i7-8700K and Core i5-8400 still deliver nearly the same level of performance, and even overclocking the 8700K makes very little difference. Katharine writes about all the bits that go inside your PC so you can carry on playing all those lovely games we like talking about so much. Nvidia's are specifically listed as being Game Ready for Forza Horizon 4, and while AMD's drivers don't make any such claims, in general AMD GPUs outperform their Nvidia equivalents—likely thanks to DirectX 12. This takes you through a race in a 2018 McLaren Senna car with multiple other super cars onscreen, different lighting conditions and various weather effects at play, such as rain and spray from wet puddles on the road, and spits out an average frame rate result at the end of it. Archived. MSI GTX 1050 Gaming X 2G You can even play on Ultra at this resolution if you don’t mind having an average frame rate somewhere in the mid-40s. Ready to race? To be fair, the minimum fps results are also important, so you'd need a GTX 1080 Ti or better to safely stay above 60, but as I noted earlier, the visual difference between ultra quality and even medium quality isn't that huge, and the extra 35 percent performance boost means the GTX 1070 and above can legitimately run Forza Horizon 4 at 4k. Check out our guide to the Best Gaming PCs. We’ve already seen some impressive results from other top-end cards in this article, but the RTX 2080Ti trounces them all, delivering an average of 95fps on Ultra at 4K, with lows of just 87fps and highs of 110fps. MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 3G MSI RX Vega 56 8G Unlike nearly every other card in existence where third party manufacturers are allowed to add small but stable factory overclocks to their base and boost clock speeds, the GTX 1070Ti remained fixed at 1607MHz and 1683MHz respectively. In truth, I still saw a couple of dips down to 49fps on this setting, so 60fps purists may find it more comfortable knocking it down to High instead. I doubt it. Unlike the RTX 2080, the RTX 2080 Ti has, so far at least, proved to provide a much bigger jump in performance compared to the current GTX 10-series, and it only distinguished itself further when I chucked Forza Horizon 4 at it. If Forza Horizon 4 crashes on startup, hard drive errors could also … Dynamic Geometry Quality (3 percent): Adjusts the level of dynamic geometry (eg, for cars, trees, fences, and other deformable objects), with a minor impact on overall performance. Affirmative. And if that’s not quite good enough for you, an average of 74fps on High certainly will be. Sorry, I can’t hear you over the sound of this engine running at an average of 93fps on Ultra, speak up! Set to 2x or off on lower tier GPUs. The HDR effects are a nice addition as well, though the price of entry is going to be too steep for most right now. Experience a shared world with dynamic seasons. Some settings only have a ‘minor’ impact on your graphics card, for example, while others have a more ‘moderate’ impact. As always, the main goal here is to find the best combination of settings to achieve a smooth 60fps at 1920×1080, 2560×1440 and 4K. It also tells you which settings benefit from having more video RAM (so you might want to turn those down if your card only has 2-4GB of VRAM, for instance), and which ones affect your CPU as well, allowing you to pinpoint which settings to adjust depending on what’s inside your PC. SSR Quality (6 percent): Affects the quality of screen space reflections on the road and water, which are less important (IMO) than the car reflections. As with the regular Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070, this resolution is prime for pumping things up to Extreme where applicable, but those with high refresh rate monitors may just want to enjoy all those extra frames on Ultra depending on the speed of your screen. However, for the sake of thoroughness, I also made a note of the highs and lows I saw in the frame rate while the benchmark was taking place, giving you a rough idea of the very worst kind of speeds you can expect, as well as the best. As our partner for these detailed performance analyses, MSI provided the hardware we needed to test Forza Horizon 4 on a bunch of different AMD and Nvidia GPUs, along with AMD and Intel platforms—see below for the full details. Thanks once again to MSI for providing the hardware for testing. Here, I saw an average of 77fps, with the frame rate never dipping below 62fps. Particle Effects Quality (<1 percent): Adjusts the detail and complexity of particle effects, with little effect on performance. Those with high refresh rate monitors may feel more comfortable playing on Medium, however, as here I saw frame rates hit a maximum of 96fps with an average of 83fps. When the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070Ti came out roughly this time last year, Nvidia decided to impose a weird rule regarding its clock speeds. To the frame rates! Please look at it. Turning this down to medium or high is recommended for midrange GPUs, and turning it off on budget GPUs can help quite a bit. As you’d expect from the one true supercar of the graphics card world, the RTX 2080Ti absolutely delivers when it comes to 4K gaming – and goes well beyond 60fps to boot. If you look down to the CPU testing below, however, you'll note that the Core i5-8400 is very nearly the same performance, despite running 1GHz slower. Indeed, it coped handsomely with Forza Horizon 4 at 1080p and 1440p resolutions, so you should still have a mighty fine time with it despite its ever-advancing age. Despite being one of the smaller Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060s out there, Zotac’s miniature take on this mid-range graphics card punched well above its usual weight in Forza Horizon 4, delivering smashing results across all three resolutions. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti may have been replaced by the GTX 1650 now, but man alive do its modest 768 CUDA cores still put in an impressive performance. You can still limit the framerate if you'd like, based on your refresh rate—so 60/30/20 with a 60Hz display, or 144/72/48 on a 144Hz display—but the important thing is that it's a choice. Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650 might not be quite as fast as AMD’s Radeon RX 570 might be, but it’s still a decent all-round 1080p card for those on a budget – especially for those after top dollar settings in Forza Horizon 4.. But of course. For the time being, though, I think it’s probably fair to say these results will probably be roughly in line with what you can expect from the GTX 1080Ti as well, which is to say, very excellent indeed. However, having tested a number of GTX 1660 Ti cards over the past couple of months, even the cheapest GTX 1660 Ti cards are maybe only a maximum of 5fps behind Asus’ ROG Strix model, so the results below shouldn’t be too far out of line with what you’ll see elsewhere. When I re-ran the benchmark on the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 with Dynamic Optimisation turned on, for example, I got the same average frame rate and saw the same highs and lows as I did with it turned off. Standard 16:9 aspect ratios naturally work, but so do 21:9 ultrawide, 32:9 doublewide, 48:9 surround view, and everything else I tried. Once again, Ultra is doable at this resolution, but VRAM issues mean you’re only looking at an average of 47fps, with lows of 41fps. Indeed, the RTX 2080Ti reached a superior peak of 166fps when I ran it through the game’s internal benchmark, as well as a loftier low of 129fps, so those with high refresh rate monitors will still be safe in the knowledge they’re getting faster speeds, even if (whisper it) their eyes can’t actually tell the difference. When the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070Ti came out roughly this time last year, Nvidia decided to impose a weird rule regarding its clock speeds. Wheeeeee! Absolutely, and there’s more good news for Ultra seekers, too, as even the 8GB RX 570 is capable of hitting an average of 59fps here. You sure can, and you can probably get away with , too, thanks to an average of 56fps. ... and while the overall graphics … Go have a lie down, Internet. This Zotac model is one of the cheapest GTX 1650 cards you can buy today, but it does have a slightly higher boost clock speed than Nvidia’s reference specification, coming in at 1695MHz as opposed to 1665MHz. Static Geometry Quality (<1 percent): Adjusts the level of static geometry, with no measurable change in performance. Please deactivate your ad blocker in order to see our subscription offer. With an average frame rate of 133fps on Ultra, ranging from 118fps right up to an incredible 153fps at this resolution, the RTX 2080 gives you more than enough room to play with the game’s Extreme settings and enjoy its high frame rates alike.
